DJ Hurricane Leads All-Star Celebration Honoring Jam Master Jay and MCA at Coney Island
An all-star event will honor two hip-hop legends at Coney Island on Sunday, August 10. DJ Hurricane will host JMJ-MCA Day at the Coney Island Aquarium Mural Boardwalk in New York City, with music scheduled from noon until 6 p.m. ET.
Presented by Together Forever and backed by Category 6 — DJ Hurricane’s forthcoming album — the celebration brings together voices and beats shaped by early rap.
Jam Master Jay’s son, DJ Jam Master J’Son, joins the Juice Crew’s Craig G, House of Pain’s Danny Boy, Kool Rock Ski of the Fat Boys, T La Rock, Schoolly D and Chief Rocker Busy Bee on stage, each sharing the spotlight with Hurricane, known for his years behind the turntables for the Beastie Boys.
The gathering pays tribute to the lasting influence of two of hip-hop’s founding figures. Jam Master Jay, who propelled turntablism into the mainstream and bridged rap with rock alongside Run-DMC, was fatally shot in a Queens recording studio on October 30, 2002. His slaying remained a cold case until indictments in 2020.
Adam “MCA” Yauch, a Beastie Boys co-founder, earned respect through his deep voice, activism and artistic shift toward more thoughtful lyrics. He died May 4, 2012, after a three-year fight with parotid gland cancer.
JMJ-MCA Day invites the community to mark their contributions with beats, words and solidarity. Attendance is free and open to the public.
