Kid Cudi Steps Into Director’s Chair with Mr. Miracle Short Film, Teases Mystery Cameo
Kid Cudi is set to premiere his short film “Mr. Miracle” soon, highlighting his shift from studio sessions to the director’s chair.
Fresh off the release of Free, his eleventh studio album, the rapper-turned-filmmaker says the 10-minute piece tells a gripping story and includes a special cameo.
He took to social media with this message: “Off to edit the Mr Miracle short film in a bit. Man, im so hyped. Yall gon love this. Plus theres a special cameo in it. A new homie in my life, that has all my respect and is a f##### talented creature,” he wrote.
Cudi has labeled the project “the illest s### ive ever directed in my life.” He describes it as his most cinematic effort so far and confirmed that the short links to the single “Mr. Miracle” from Free, which dropped on August 22, 2025. The announcement arrives after a career spanning over a decade in music.
Looking back on his path as an artist, Cudi noted that Free stood as his final album under a major label through Wicked Awesome and Republic Records. He said this independence will let him pace future releases.
In his own words: “Free was my last album on a major label (which is part of the reason I called the album Free 😌) and now im lookin forward to a new chapter and being independent,” he shared.
He thanked supporters for rallying behind Free, which contains the singles “Neverland,” “Grave” and “Mr. Miracle.” “I just wanna say Thank You to all my fans for supporting Free, spreading the word and sending love!! I’m so grateful I have yall in my corner,” he wrote.
Though he’s pressing pause on new music, Cudi made clear that he won’t vanish from the public eye: “I think ima officially take a step back for awhile from droppin albums and focus on directing, more acting, painting and fashion for sure. Its gonna be awhile til yall hear another album from me, but I promise when I do come again, it wont be boring.”
The film “Mr. Miracle” is slated to arrive in the coming weeks.
