Pharoahe Monch and Prince Po dropped their self-titled debut in 1991 and kept building through Stress: The Extinction Agenda (1994) and The Equinox (1997). The critical reception was universal — dense, cerebral, technically ferocious. Commercial reception was almost none. That’s the OK story: the rappers’ rappers, name-checked by everyone from Talib to Black Thought, worshiped in the crates but never on the charts.

Wearing OK is a signal. It says you know that “Fudge Pudge” and “Prisoners of War” are canon. It says you understand the lineage that runs from Rakim through Organized to Monch’s solo run to every technical MC still trying to keep up.
