Pharoahe Monch – Desire Hoodie

Description

Eight years. That’s how long the streets waited for Pharoahe Monch to follow up Internal Affairs. Desire was worth every day.

June 26, 2007. The Organized Konfusion legend from Southside Jamaica, Queens finally came back through SRC and Universal Motown with a record that sounded like church, protest and a block party at the same time. Lee Stone, The Alchemist, Black Milk and Mr. Porter on the boards. Erykah Badu and Dwele riding through. Public Enemy in the DNA. “Push,” “Body Baby,” and the title track proved the man who made “Simon Says” a stadium chant hadn’t lost a single step — he’d gotten deeper.

That’s the jewel: Desire peaked at #13 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart and moved barely 17,000 copies its first month, yet critics put it right next to Internal Affairs. One of the most slept-on comeback albums of the 2000s, built by an MC whose breath control and wordplay still set the bar for every lyricist who came after. This hoodie carries the wrapped-face cover art in full sepia detail, front and center.
