Van Ghost is the 2018 run where D.C.’s ANKHLEJOHN and the faceless producer Big Ghost Ltd turned a museum catalog into a grimy underground classic. Every track takes its title from a Van Gogh canvas: “The Night Café,” “The Yellow House,” “The Starry Night,” “The Potato Eaters.” Hus Kingpin pulled up on “Almond Blossom.” Fly Anakin, Eto and Crimeapple turned “At Eternity’s Gate” into a four-man cypher.

This is the post-Griselda underground at its sharpest. Big Ghost’s loops are bleak and cinematic, and ANKHLEJOHN runs through them with abrasive bars and street detail. It’s an art-concept album that never gets precious about the concept. The cover sits on this hoodie as-is, Big Ghost Certified Limited stamp and all, built for cold-weather crate digging.
