2002. O.S.T. dropped and rewrote what indie hip-hop from the West Coast was supposed to sound like. Thes One and Double K flipped soul and jazz loops like it was a lost art, spit like they meant every syllable, and reminded everybody that Los Angeles wasn’t just N.W.A and G-Funk — it was a whole other lane of golden-era heads keeping the boom bap alive from the porch to the park.

Every track on the record felt like a summer afternoon in the Fairfax District — laid back, smart, deep in the crates, and absolutely uncompromising. This is the album that made Rhymesayers and Stones Throw fans nod along in unison. This is the album that carried the underground on its back.
