Skepta Snubs Joyner Lucas, Promises Just Two Bars
Joyner Lucas embraced Skepta’s call for a UK vs US rap duel, swiftly offering himself for the match on Twitter: “The moment I’ve been waiting for… say the word, Joyner Lucas vs Skepta.” But Skepta shrugged off the offer.
Skepta posted a video response that misnamed Lucas as “Jonah” and mocked his enthusiasm. “1st 👏🏿 you’re a brave man Jonah,” he said. “How long you been waiting for this moment though?”
The British MC made it clear he admired Lucas stepping forward, yet he had no intention of going all out. “I didn’t do all the work I did just for Joyner Lucas to be saying my name,” Skepta stated. “I got diss tracks on YouTube with 30 million views.” He added that he would reserve just “two bars” for Lucas on a track aimed mainly at A$AP Rocky, letting one of his “Young Gs” handle the rest.
Lucas hit back by resharing Skepta’s reply with the caption, “I want whatever drugs he’s on.” He followed up with a clip of comedian Aries Spears poking fun at British rappers.
Skepta countered that jab by pointing to Aries Spears’ real name. “I was wondering who’s perspective you were gonna diss me from, never would have guessed Aaron Spears,” he quipped.
In a tweet that has since been deleted, Lucas seemed to dial back his stance after mentioning advice from his manager. He claimed the manager warned that Skepta wouldn’t “Single you out and make a whole record about you” as “he’s not built like that.”
Lucas added, “I hope he don’t do no sucka s### like that becuz I might not even respond. I’m tryna really trash this n#### and settle this debate.”
All of this has played out on social media and no diss tracks are out. Neither rapper has turned it into a full contest.
Skepta originally framed the exchange not as real conflict but as a friendly lyrical sport. “It’s not beef, Rocky is my family,” he said when asked if he had issues with his former collaborator. “Rap is a sport, same way we have dissing matches on the block we can do it on record.”
