Lauryn Hill Applauds Son Zion Marley’s Grassroots Self-Funded Reggae Video Premature Paradise

Zion Marley, 28, dropped his latest video, “Premature Paradise,” last week.

Busta Rhymes, Questlove, and M-1 from dead prez chimed in on Lauryn Hill’s Instagram post praising her son, Zion Marley. The post arrived on Saturday (September 13) and featured a clip from the new video.

The video for “Premature Paradise” highlights classic reggae beats through modern visuals that reflect his musical lineage.

Lauryn Hill, who is the mother of Zion by Rohan Marley, wrote: “Salute to my beloved son Zion Marley — grass-roots and self-funded, pushing his music out there!! Beautiful song!”

Questlove reacted with “Wow,” and Busta Rhymes, M-1, and Rohan Marley each posted heart emojis.

Fans worldwide reacted within hours to the online premiere.

Lauryn Hill originally recorded a track titled “To Zion” on her solo debut album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

That song combined Spanish acoustic guitar by Carlos Santana with hip-hop beats and gospel flourishes to reflect the emotional process she went through during pregnancy.

On “To Zion,” Hill examines the tension between industry pressure to focus on her career and her choice to embrace motherhood.

She opens up about her doubts and gives thanks for what she calls God’s “gift so great.”

The composition weaves themes of parental affection, spirituality, and change.

It regards Zion as a figure of literal joy and a symbol of hope, referencing the biblical city of Zion as a place of renewal.

Its memorable chorus and uplifting gospel finale turned it into a rallying cry for women who choose motherhood on their own terms.

A fan commented, “Its crazy that you wrote the song Zion all those yrs ago and we get to see the muse himself as a whole adult keeping the family’s legacy going. Great song, great presence congrats to your baby.”
